Gossip: BAKER, BAKER - BAKE ME A PLAY!

Actress and TV chef Jane Asher orders in on the West End...

According to an interview with The Daily Mail, tv chef and ex-Beatles squeeze Jane Asher is trying to bring her love of cooking and acting together on stage.  She has encouraged Hugh Whitemore to create an original piece based around food writer Elizabeth David.  Expecting a one-woman show, possibly for herself to star in, she has been pleasantly surprised to discover that Whitemore has managed to whip up a two act confection suitable for four or five actors.  The show, which would feature a fully functioning kitchen, is currently titled Some Rather Special Dinner Parties and Asher hopes it will hit the boards by late autumn.

Asher is well known for juggling both a thriving theatre and screen career with her love of food.  Her first appearance as a child actress was in the 1952 film Mandy.  She has since starred opposite Michael Caine in the 1966 film Alfie, and enjoyed tv roles in Brideshead Revisited, The Mistress and as devious and duplicitous Angel Samson in the third incarnation of Crossroads in 2003.  She received rave reviews in 2009 as Delia at the Rose Theatre, Kingston, in Peter Hall's revival of Alan Ayckbourn's Bedroom Farce.  On top of three bestselling fiction novels, she has written over a dozen lifestyle, costuming and cake-decorating books.  As well as running a cake decorating business she also founded the Party Cakes shop in Chelsea.

No confirmation as yet to the rumour of edible programmes!
