Gossip: Disney Smash Hit Musical "Newsies" Headed to London?

Rumour has it that the latest hit Disney musical Newsies may be headed for the West End Stage.

Sources say that producers are now actively searching for a suitable home to stage the production in London but this won't likely be until late 2013 to early 2014 depending on availability.

Newsies The Musical is a Disney Theatrical Productions stage musical based on the 1992 film Newsies which starred Christian Bale and Bill Pullman, which in turn was inspired by the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899 in New York City. The show has music by Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Sister Act the Musical), lyrics by Jack Feldman, and a book by Harvey Fierstein (La Cage aux Folles). The musical ran at the Paper Mill Playhouse in 2011 and premiered on Broadway in 2012.

The Broadway show was nominated for eight Tony Awards, including Best Book, Best Actor (Jeremy Jordan) and Best Direction of a Musical (Jeff Calhoun), winning two - Best Score and Best Choreography (Christopher Gattelli).

London Theatre Direct is one of the UK’s leading theatre ticket providers, bringing audiences closer to the magic of the stage.
