New Urinetown Cast Announced - Last Chance To See Jenna Russell, Simon Paisley Day And Mark Elliott!

Renowned comedian Phill Jupitus (Never Mind The Buzzcocks, QI, Hairspray, Monty Python’s Spamalot) will join the cast of Jamie Lloyd’s ground breaking, splash hit production of Urinetown The Musical from 1 December 2014. Coinciding with this announcement, it will also be the last chance to see Jenna Russell, Simon Paisley Day and Marc Elliott, in their critically acclaimed roles; Penelope Pennywise, Caldwell B. Cladwell and Mr. McQueen respectively, who have their final performance on 29 November.

Phill will be taking on the role of tyrannical Caldwell B. Cladwell, and stepping up into roles of Penelope Pennywise and Mr. McQueen will be our original cast members Julie Jupp and Alasdair Buchan.

Director Jamie Lloyd’s critically acclaimed production of the multi Tony award winning musical Urinetown, with music and lyrics by Mark Hollmann and book and lyrics by Greg Kotis, is currently running at the Apollo Theatre for a limited season.

Phill Jupitus’ stage credits include White Rabbit Red Rabbit at the Edinburgh Traverse Theatre, Big Society at the Leeds City Varieties, King Arthur in Spamalot on UK and Ireland tour, and his critically acclaimed performance of Edna Turnblad in Hairspray at the Shaftesbury Theatre. He became a household name when he started as team captain on BBC2’S Pop quiz Never Mind The Buzzcocks. Twenty-three series later Phill is the last man standing from the original line-up. Phill was also a regular on the national and London comedy circuits for 11 years.

Phill became the first broadcasted voice on BBC 6 Music when the station first launched in 2002 and continued to host the Breakfast Show until 2007. In 2010 his critically acclaimed book was published, Good Morning Nantwich – Adventures In Breakfast Radio, where Phill finds out what really makes the listening nation tick first thing in the morning.

All other casting will be remaining the same, led by star of the RSC, Jonathan Slinger (Officer Lockstock), Matthew Seadon-Young (Bobby Strong), Nathan Amzi (Officer Barrel), Chris Bennett (Swing), Katie Bernstein (Little Becky Two Shoes/Mrs. Millennium), Cory English (Old Man Strong/Hot Blades Harry), Madeleine Harland (Soupy Sue), Rosanna Hyland (Hope Cladwell), Karis Jack (Little Sally), Aaron Lee Lambert (Billy Boy Bill/ UGC Executive), Mark Meadows (Senator Fipp), Christina Modestou (Swing), Joel Montague (Swing), Jeff Nicholson (Tiny Tom/ Dr. Billeaux), Kane Oliver Parry (Robbie The Stockfish) and Vicki Lee Taylor (Swing).

The production is designed by Evening Standard award winner Soutra Gilmour with choreography by Ann Yee, lighting design by Adam Silverman, sound design by Terry Jardine & Nick Lidster, casting by David Grindrod Associates, wig & hair design by Richard Mawbey, fight direction by Kate Waters, orchestrations by Bruce Coughlin and musical supervision & direction by Alan Williams. Richard Fitch is the Associate Director.

Urinetown is a sharp-witted rampant riot of a show that tells the tale of a town fit to burst; spending a penny can prove problematic in a place where the privilege to pee has become a punishable offence. There is no such thing as rent free relief until our young hero, Bobby Strong, appears – with more than a good set of pipes – and starts a revolution!

Sometimes all you need is a golden drop of a hope to change the world.
