The Boots Are Filled! Initial Casting for Kinky Boots At The Adelphi Theatre Announced #KinkyBoots #LondonGetsKinky

The West End premiere of the Broadway smash hit KINKY BOOTS by Cyndi Lauper has been announced with Matt Henry and Killian Donnelly leading the cast.

Matt Henry will star as the fabulous drag queen Lola, the role created by Chiwetel Ejiofor on which the musical was based. Matt has previously performed in The Lion King and Avenue Q in the West End and recently appeared on the BBC show The Voice.

Joining him will be Killian Donnelly, currently starring in Memphis at the Shaftesbury Theatre alongside Beverley Knight, who will play the part of Charlie.

Baz Bamigboye of the Daily Mail interviewed the pair, quoting Donnelly as "You can change the world if you change your mind, just be who you want to be. That’s what you come away with."

Describing the audition process, Matt Henry confided, "I pitched up in heels because I have worn them before, professionally" and added that between jobs he has taught models to ‘catwalk’ in heels... "As Lola, I have to wear a lot of heels, and practising helps to build up the calf muscles" he proudly confessed.

Other announced Kinky Boots cast members include Amy Lennox (Legally Blonde) as Lauren, Amy Ross (Sunny Afternoon) as Nicola, Jamie Baughan and Michael Hobbs.

Kinky Boots is based on the film of the same name, interestingly a real life story,  about how a drag queen helped a Northampton shoe factory survive by designing thigh-high, stiletto boots for men who prefer their footwear to be flamboyant.

Kinky Boots opens at the Adelphi Theatre on 21st August 2015 with press night on 15th September.
