TOP GIRLS AT THE TRAFALGAR STUDIOS

A modern classic, the play Top Girls is now showing at the Trafalgar Studios until 15th October.

Having received rave reviews at the Chichester Festival, the play has transferred to the West End with it's cast intact.  The left wing writer Caryl Churchill wrote the play that was first staged in 1982 that looks at the coming into power of Margaret Thatcher and how this affected a generation of women.

It's revival at the Chichester Festival received reviews such as being "often splendidly funny and inventive, and, by the end, deeply moving too."

The opening act is a coup-de-theatre in which the play’s central character, Marlene played by Suranne Jones, who has just beaten an older man to the post of managing director at the Top Girls employment agency where she works, has invited a group of women to a swish restaurant to celebrate her success.

Directed by Max Stafford-Clark, who mounted the world premiere and then staged a second production at the Royal Court in 1991.

Amongst the all female cast are also Stella Gonet as Marlene's sister/Isabella, Lucy Briers as Pope Joan/a middle manager called Louise and Catherine McCormack as Lady Nijo/Win.
