Torch Song Trilogy Revived At The Menier Chocolate Factory

Actor Douglas Hodge is making his directorial debut at the Menier Chocolate Factory with a revival of Torch Song Trilogy by Harvey Fierstein.  The play opens on 30th May for previews with official opening on 12th June until 12th August.

The play originally opened on Broadway in 1982 where it ran for 1,222 performances starring Harvey Fierstein for part of the run.  It also was a smash hit in the West End when it opened in 1985 starring Sir Anthony Sher where it ran for just over 7 months.

Later Fierstein adapted his play for the big screen and the film starring Fierstein, Anne Bancroft and Matthew Broderick was released in 1988.

This new revival will star David Bedella as the New York drag queen Arnold Beckoff and Sara Kestelman as Mrs Beckoff.

Hodge is no stranger to the world of drag queens, having famously won Olivier and Tony awards for his performance as drag queen Albin in La Cage aux Folles.
